- What's Happening
-
- We are about to form an ILine User Group!
-
- The User Group will operate in a similar way to PipeLine and ZLine but
- for users of the two Computer Concepts' DTP packages called Style and
- Publisher. The first disc will be issued with a January 1995 date (and
- at 3 monthly intervals thereafter) but will probably be 'shipped'
- before Christmas 1994.
-
- If you want to order in advance then you may do so at the special
- introductory price of £18.00 per year if you live in the EU (and £20.00
- per year if you live outside the EU). You may order a maximum of three
- years at this introductory price, ie up to the end of 1997. You must
- place your order before the 10th December 1994 if you wish to take
- advantage of this special price.

-
- Impression Junior - Impression II - Style - Publisher
-
- For a few years now it has been my intention to launch ILine but I was
- told (off the record) that Computer Concepts were going to bring out
- two new DTP packages (which turned out to be Style and Publisher) so I
- delayed its launch. Later I was told that files created in the new
- (Style/Publisher) format might not load back into the earlier packages.
- I decided to delay the launch of ILine until the situation became
- clearer and I could be sure exactly of the 'backward compatibility'.
- Computer Concepts 'lost' my order for an upgrade from Impression II to
- Publisher and so I received Publisher somewhat late in the year
- compared with most of you! Hence a further delay.
-
- The Publisher manual which I received gave instructions for saving
- files in Impression II format. I tried it and it didn't work! I tried
- getting in touch with Computer Concepts by 'phone. Have you ever
- succeeded? Finally, with the help of members of PipeLine and ZLine, we
- resolved that the Style/Publisher format would not load into Impression
- Junior nor into Impression II. What is more, there was no way in which
- the later format could be easily loaded into the earlier one and now I
- believe that there never will be.
-
- As I said, I had hoped that ILine would service Impression Junior and
- Impression II as well as the later packages but, because of the
- difficulties (near impossibility) of loading Publisher files into
- Impression II the choice I was left with was:
-
- (a) Distribute ILine files in Impression II format
- (b) Distribute ILine files in Style/Publisher format
-
- If I chose (a) then I could service all versions of Impression. If I
- chose (b) then I could service only Style and Publisher. I waited for
- feedback from you and then I decided that the ILine discs will contain
- files only in the 'new' Style and Publisher format.
-
- One of my considerations in coming to this decision is that my feed
- back from you is that, because the benefits of upgrading (from Junior
- or Impression II to Style or Publisher) are high when compared with the
- cost, most users of Impression Junior and Impression II will have
- upgraded to Style or Publisher.

- Contributions - Please
-
- At the moment we are in the process of getting our first ILine disc
- together and so, if you have a contribution to make then we'll be
- pleased to consider it for publication on that disc. As usual, if your
- contribution is published then you'll get a free copy of the disc on
- which it appears or, as is more usual, a refund of the price you paid
- for the disc.
-
- If you have a contribution, for example an article on your experience
- of installing the package, on Master Frames, Styles, frame borders,
- writing letters, using Equasor or, indeed, anything else, then it will
- help me greatly if you use as your basis the template [ILine1T] as your
- starting point. The file [ReadMeT] is an alternative form of that
- 'template' which you might find easier to use.
